Privacy Policy
This policy covers The Conditions Report app and this website, theconditionsreport.com. "We" and "us" mean The Conditions Report.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your sign-in details, your saved spots and settings, and a token for sending you notifications.
- Your location stays on your device.
- We don't use advertising or analytics software, we don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell your data.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
What we collect
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your email address and display name, from Apple, Google or the email sign-up form. If you hide your email with Sign in with Apple, we receive Apple's relay address instead. If you sign in with Google, the web address of your Google profile picture is stored with your sign-in; the app doesn't use it. | To sign you in and keep your spots on every device. |
| Identifiers | A user ID created for your account. For each device you use: an installation ID, a push-notification token, the platform, the app version and the device's language. | To sync your account and deliver notifications to your devices. |
| Your choices | Saved spots and their order, your sports, home region, units, appearance, notification settings (including quiet hours and the morning report time) and your time zone. | To build your report and send notifications at the right time. |
| Notifications we send | The title, text and time of each notification, which fill the in-app inbox. | So you can read a notification after it's gone from your lock screen. |
If you sign up with email, your password is handled by Firebase Authentication. We never see it or store it in a readable form.
Guests. "Look around first" creates an anonymous account with a user ID and no email or name. Signing out as a guest deletes the guest profile and its sign-in.
What we don't collect
- Your location. If you allow location access, your position is used on your device to sort nearby spots and center the map. It isn't sent to our servers or stored. Your home region is one you pick from a list.
- Usage analytics, crash reports or advertising identifiers.
- Contacts, photos, health data, or browsing or search history.
How we use it
Only to run the app: to sign you in, sync your spots and settings, build your report, send the notifications you've turned on, and answer you when you write to us. We don't build advertising profiles, and we don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Who else handles your data
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging) stores accounts and app data and delivers push notifications on our behalf. The data is stored in the United States.
- Apple and Google, if you sign in with them, confirm who you are. Apple and Google also carry push notifications to your device.
- OpenFreeMap. The Explore map loads its map tiles directly from OpenFreeMap. As with any request over the internet, this shows them your IP address and the area of the map you're looking at. We don't send them anything about your account.
- Weather sources. Our servers fetch forecasts and observations from the National Weather Service and NOAA. Your device doesn't contact them, and nothing about you is sent to them.
- Links out of the app. Directions, spot websites and official alert pages open in other apps or your browser, under those services' own policies. For directions we pass on the spot's location, not yours.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your data
- We keep your account data until you delete your account.
- Entries in the notifications inbox are removed after about 30 days.
- To delete your account, open Profile in the app and choose Delete account. This deletes your saved spots, settings, registered devices, inbox and sign-in. If you used Sign in with Apple, it also revokes the app's access to your Apple ID. It can't be undone.
- If you can't get into the app, email support@theconditionsreport.com from the address on the account and we'll delete it for you.
- Reports saved on your phone for offline use are removed when you delete the app.
Server logs kept by our hosting provider can hold a record of a request for a short time after the data itself is deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Turn any notification off in the app, or all of them in your device's settings.
- Allow or withdraw location access in your device's settings. The app works without it.
- Use the app as a guest, with no email or name.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you. Write to support@theconditionsreport.com and we'll help.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access rules limit each account's data to the person signed in to it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that nothing will ever go wrong.
Children
The Conditions Report isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child has given us personal data, write to us and we'll delete it.
This website
This site sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising or third-party scripts or fonts. It's served by Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard server logs such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you write.
Changes
When this policy changes we'll update this page and the date at the top.
